About Saarbruecken
Saarbruecken is the capital of the small federal state Saarland located in South-West Germany; it is a stone's throw away from France and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. The city in the valley of the river Saar has around 190.000 citizens and is not only location of renown research institutes and the University of the Saarland but one of the economic centres of the European Saar-Lor-Lux region.
Historically, the Saarland has frequently changed hands between France and Germany during the last 200 years. Since 1957 the region has been an integral part of the Federal Republic of Germany, but the common passion for all things French is unmistakeable. A certain “savoir vivre” mentality permeates the regional atmosphere.
